Best Keeper In The World Cricket – Today marks 482 days since the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England and Wales; the same number as Kumar Sangakkara’s record ODI dismissal by a wicket-keeper.

To celebrate the record, we decided to look at the five best goalkeepers – in terms of dismissals – at the World Cup.

It is worth mentioning that Kumar Sangakkara is on the list of most dismissals by a wicket keeper in the World Cup.

Sangakkara claimed 54 wickets in 36 matches at the World Cup, averaging 1.5 dismissals per innings.

He began his World Cup career with three catches and a knock against New Zealand in 2003 – in what turned out to be his most prolific innings with the gloves, finishing with 17 total dismissals.

15 dismissals in 2007, 14 in 2011, before ending his World Cup career with eight in 2015.

Sangakkara’s best return for dismissals includes four, a feat he achieved three times; twice in 2003 and once in 2011. He also holds the record for most wickets in the World Cup, easily leading the ranks with 13.

The former Australian gloveman is second only to Sangakkara in ODI and World Cup hauls, and while Gilchrist doesn’t hold the record for most dismissals in the championship, he has a few others.

His 21 dismissals from just 10 matches in Australia’s successful World Cup campaign in 2003 is a record for a single edition of the tournament. He also shares the record (with Pakistan’s Sarfraz Ahmed) for the most dismissals in an innings thanks to his six catches against Namibia in 2003.

Gilchrist’s impressive 1,677 disposals per match at the World Cup is the highest of any of the top five defenders.

In third place is a man who may have the opportunity to add to his list in 2019 – MS Dhoni- India’s keeper.

Dhoni played in three editions of the World Cup (2007, 2011, 2015), taking 32 dismissals in 20 games at a rate of 1.6 per game.

His most recent tournament was his most productive to date; he claimed 15 dismissals (all catches) as India reached the semi-finals in 2015.

It was in 2015 that Dhoni claimed his dismissal record with four catches against Bangladesh in Melbourne.

Sharing the third spot with MS Dhoni is former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, who also claimed 32 dismissals in the World Cup.

While Dhoni took a wicket in each of his World Cup matches, McCullum was behind the wickets 25 times in 34 games.

He has claimed more runs in four editions of the World Cup (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015) than Dhoni (1,280 combined).

The 2007 tournament in the West Indies was his most prolific innings, with McCullum taking 14 wickets in 10 overs.

No one has taken more Test dismissals than Mark Boucher (555), the man who completes the top five wicket-keepers in the ICC Cricket World Cup.

The former South African gloveman finished his World Cup career with 31 scalps from 25 innings at an average of 1.240 dismissals per innings.

Boucher’s World Cup debut in 1999 saw him finish with 11 dismissals – his joint best return with the 2003 edition.

His best effort in the Cricket World Cup also came in his debut tournament, when he took four catches against Australia in the famous semi-final match at Edgbaston.
